CMP Restores Over 107,000 Outages in a Day
More crews on the system today
AUGUSTA, Maine — October 1, 2020 – Central Maine Power (CMP) continues to repair system damage today and restore power to the remaining customers who lost service in the wind storm that impacted much of Maine yesterday. A total of 140,000 CMP customers lost power in the wind event due to system damage caused by trees and limbs falling onto the system, many from outside CMP’s regularly maintained trimming zone. CMP restored approximately 107,000 customers yesterday and an additional 18,000 overnight and this morning leaving about 15,000 still without power at noontime. Crews will work around the clock until all are restored.
“We have more crews who arrived last night and calm weather to perform our work today. We plan to make significant progress on addressing the remaining outages.” said Kerri Therriault, director of Electric Operations.
Central Maine and parts of the Midcoast are where the majority of customer outages remain. The company has moved both internal CMP crews and contractors to those areas.
Customers may check estimated times for restoration on the outage list on CMP’s website.
CMP continues to observe all COVID-19 safety protocols in storm response including:
- Working in separate teams to minimize contact
- Restricting visitor access to company facilities
- Entering a customer residence only in the event of emergency and after assessing risk
- Maintaining appropriate social distancing in the field
- Allowing one employee per vehicle
- Wearing masks as situations require

If you lose service:
- To report an outage, visit Outage Central at cmpco.com. Customers may also report an outage using CMP’s 24/7 automated phone system at 800.696.1000.
- Keep sensitive electronic appliances such as computers, TVs and stereos plugged into a surge protector, or unplug them. They could be damaged if a power surge occurs when electricity is restored.

For customers with generators:
- Hire a licensed electrician to install permanent generators and transfer switches.
- Properly ground all portable generators.
- Carefully read and observe all instructions in your generator’s operating manual.
- Never run a generator indoors, or even in an open garage.
- If your carbon monoxide detector goes off – get out of the building immediately and call 911.
- Do not store fuel indoors or try to refuel a generator while it’s running.
