CMP Continues Storm Restoration as Gusty Winds Cause Outages

AUGUSTA, ME – October 14, 2022 – Central Maine Power (CMP) line crews, joined by 180 line contractors and more than 100 tree crews have restored more than 49,448 outages across the service area since last night following a mid-day increase in storm intensity. An additional 30 crews from CMP’s sister company in CT, and other contractors are joining Maine crews to assist in repairs. The peak number of outages was 69,578 and the total number of customers impacted since the start of the event was 106,000.

“Working safely in these winds is our highest priority and we cannot send crews up in buckets when the winds gust near 40 mph,” said Adam Desrosiers, vice president of Electric Operations. We expect the winds to ease this evening and our crews will work through the night if needed to continue to restore customers.”

Crews have encountered several roads blocked by debris and work with local Emergency Management officials to clear wires ensuring emergency vehicles can travel.

CMP assesses the extent of any damage that occurs to the system and make repairs, prioritizing hospitals and other critical care facilities.

Customers may find storm preparation tips and a checklist on the CMP website cmpco.com. Customers may also enroll online in Outage Alerts to stay current in the event they lose power.
