Caring for the Environment
We are committed to responsible business practices that advance community well-being, preserve natural resources, and benefit future generations.
Our Approach
Our sustainable business strategy focuses on building resiliency to adapt to a changing world. Infrastructure resiliency can help us respond to emerging threats, such as increasingly extreme weather patterns. Avoiding impacts to nature and minimizing waste can help secure the supply of natural resources we all rely on. Advancing new energy technologies can help improve efficiency and manage the country’s need for more power.
Environmental initiatives at CMP:
Investing in infrastructure resiliency and reliability
These types of projects, such as the Raymond to Pownal transmission line equipment upgrade and the Cape Substation switch replacement, protect our infrastructure and customers against the risks of increasingly extreme weather. You can learn more in our Grid and Climate Vulnerability Plans.
Innovating for the future
These types of initiatives include driving automation in operations through technology, such as installing “smart grid devices” which can quickly transmit outage data to our control center, and those which allow us to operate system components remotely in the event of extreme weather.
Preserving our natural resources
This includes wildlife conservation efforts such as animal guards installed on equipment to reduce interactions; protecting ospreys when nesting on equipment; and our work on the Kennebunk Plains erosion restoration project, protecting biodiversity and local drinking water sources.
Empowering customers to make responsible decisions.
This includes supporting the interconnection of customer energy sources like solar, enabling access to smart energy solutions like electric vehicles (EVs), and promoting energy efficiency initiatives available through Efficiency Maine.
Clean Electricity Supply
We deliver the electricity you buy from other companies. You may choose Standard Offer Service for your electricity supply, which is administered by the Maine Public Utilities Commission, or you may choose a Competitive Energy Supplier. You can find environmental information regarding the Standard Offer option here.
