Power Restored to 270,000 Customers
Estimated Times of Restoration (ETRs) have been assigned to all customers today
Augusta, ME — April 6, 2024 — With power restored to more than 270,000 customers since Thursday’s damaging storm, CMP provided estimated restoration times to all customers still without power on Saturday. Damage across CMP’s service area has varied, with southwest Maine, including York and parts of Oxford and Cumberland counties seeing the worst damage by far. More than 1,100 crews are working to restore power.
As the weather cleared on Thursday morning, our crews began “assessing” damage. For this storm, that means getting eyes on more than 5,100 individual incidents of fallen trees and downed powerlines to determine how many poles are broken, trees need to be removed, transformers need to be replaced, wires need to be restrung, and what types of crews are needed to restore power.
For our crews, this can mean physically driving every mile of a powerline circuit in a community. All of this is “assessing” and is critical so that crews respond to outages with the right equipment to make repairs.
As assessing concluded and ETRs were assigned on Saturday, crews continue to work. Given current conditions, an ETR is the time we expect all customers to be restored in a geographic area. This is an estimate based on the assessment of damage and assignment of crews. These ETRs will be adjusted based on new information as crews work on the impacted circuit.
General ETRs by geographic area are as follows:
- Sunday or sooner: Greater Portland area, Eastern Cumberland County, Augusta area
- Monday or sooner: Greater Lewiston-Auburn area, greater Brunswick area
- Tuesday or sooner: York County, Southern Oxford County, Western Cumberland County
“More than 1,100 crews have restored power to more than 270,000 customers over the past two days, but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Jon Breed, spokesperson for Central Maine Power. “The long duration of this storm disrupted lives all over our state, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to restore power as quickly as we can.”
