CMP Wins “Best Places to Work in Maine” Award

With more than 1,100 employees in Maine, CMP actively works to attract the very best talent Maine has to offer


AUGUSTA, ME — October 12, 2023 — Last night, Central Maine Power was among those honored as one of Maine’s best places to work at an awards dinner at the state’s capital. On hand was Avangrid CEO, Pedro Azagra, CMP CEO, Joe Purington, and a dozen other employees from across the company.

CMP has nearly 1,100 Maine-based employees. In addition to line workers, who in all weather conditions maintain Maine’s electric grid, the company boasts a talented, diverse, and dedicated team of engineers, customer service professionals, arborists, accountants, analysts, and maintenance groups to ensure our customers receive safe and reliable electricity every day.

Over the years, Mainers have changed the way they use the electric grid, and what was true in the past is no longer the case. Climate change creates new vulnerabilities. Economic growth has led to increased electric consumption in areas like Portland. New forms of generation like solar has turned normal poles and wires into a two-way street. And with electric vehicles, heat pumps, and other forms of electrification, Mainers are using different amounts of power at different times of day.

“As we look to build the electric grid of the future, our commitment to Maine has never been stronger,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. “We have invested more than $3 billion into Maine’s power grid since 2008, and we will continue to do so, not only to ensure we properly plan for these challenges, but so we can attract the very best talent Maine has to offer.”
