CMP Celebrates Maine Arbor Week

CMP employees joined community events across the state for Maine Arbor Week 2024.

Augusta, ME — May 23, 2024 – To mark Maine Arbor Week, Central Maine Power (CMP) partnered with schools and other community organizations to celebrate the critical role trees play in our state’s ecosystems and animal habitats. CMP employs a team of 11 licensed arborists who work with qualified Maine contractors across our service area. This team prunes and removes trees along thousands of miles of lines to help deliver safe, reliable electricity service to customers.

CMP recognized Maine Arbor Week with the following events:

  • Monday 5/20: To kick off the week, CMP employees planted a blueberry bush at the company’s Alfred Service Center in memory of a longtime employee who worked there.
  • Tuesday 5/21: CMP’s Manager of Vegetation Management, Katie Manende and other CMP arborists visited Carrabec High School in North Anson, where they planted a tree with a high school class.
  • Thursday 5/23: CMP employees volunteered their time to clean up the Litchfield Fairgrounds in partnership with the Litchfield Farmers Club.
  • Plants and pollinator gardens are also being installed at CMP’s offices to encourage biodiversity and habitats for insects that are fundamental to the success of plant life in Maine.

“Arbor Week is the perfect time to recognize the importance of sustainability and protecting our environment for future generations of Mainers,” said Manende. “These activities, including spending time with high school students, teaching them how trees support ecosystems throughout our state, are a great way to bring attention to these important topics.”

Sustainability is a part of the culture at CMP, and environmental stewardship and accelerating the clean energy transformation are at the forefront of everything we do. This includes many initiatives such as the Avangrid-wide mobile device recycling program with proceeds donated to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees. More information about similar programs can be found in our 2023 Sustainability Report.
