A message from CMP Executive Chairman David Flanagan to our customers

Augusta, ME. — April 6, 2020

The electricity service we deliver is critical to the safety, comfort and productivity of Mainers who are now waiting this out at home. It’s also critical to the essential businesses that are supporting all of us including the hospitals and other medical facilities that are at the front lines in this battle against coronavirus.

We have never taken this responsibility lightly.

In our business, it is our responsibility to always be prepared for this type of event and we have taken extraordinary measures to protect our communities and our employees while maintaining service. Since early February, we’ve been providing employees with hygienic training and supplies to protect them from exposure and stay healthy. Employees who can work from home are doing so. The front-line personnel who cannot stay at home are working under protocols designed to separate and protect them.

As the first cases of coronavirus began to emerge in Maine, we conducted inspections and maintenance to protect electrical circuits that serve hospitals and other critical facilities in our territory. We have also taken extra steps to plan for reliability for two Maine-based companies that manufacture essential medical supplies that are needed nationwide.

During a storm last month, amidst the pandemic, we called in support from our sister company in Connecticut, and reinforcements from other contractors in the state to restore 50,000 outages in a day.

We are also committed to helping you manage your account.

We also recognize the economic impact this event is having on our customers.  We have advocated and supported steps directed by the PUC to help ease the financial burden including suspending all disconnections past the winter period date, suspending fees on late payments and reconnections, suspending collection of residential security deposits, and adjusting certain payment plans so that customers remain eligible to participate, even if a payment is missed.

We are part of the communities we serve. We recently donated 6,000 protective masks to the state to distribute to health care organizations. We continue to work with our regulators and Maine community partners to find ways to ease the impact of this event.

Although these are uncertain times, I am inspired by the way our communities are coming together. We will continue to do our part to make sure Maine Powers On.
