Start saving today and for years to come with ETS heat!

If you're looking for ways to reduce your heating costs this winter, you've come to the right place! Mainers continue to face high and unpredictable heating costs. We think it's time to consider another heating option - Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) heat.

Electricity prices have remained stable relative to the price of other heating fuels, such as the oil that most Mainers use to heat their homes. That means predictable heating prices without sudden jumps in price. Plus, ETS heat is easy to use and 100% efficient. Keep reading to learn more!

Save up to $4,500 with our limited time rebate program!

We're offering a limited number of rebates for customers who purchase and install one or more ETS heaters.

  • Save $1,500 off each ETS "room unit" heater (limit 3 per customer, up to $4,500)
  • Save $4,500 off an ETS "whole house" central heating system

The goal of our ETS program is to help customers lower their heating bills and to see how much money they can save by replacing some - or all - of their current heating sources with low-cost ETS heat. Click here for more information about our ETS rebate program.

How ETS heat works

ETS heaters take advantage of electricity rates that cost less at night when demand is lower*. ETS heaters store electric heat at night, and provide heat that's available whenever you need it, day or night. ETS heat is comfortable, easy to use, and can save you money this winter and for years to come.

*Electricity delivery prices are lower only when using off-peak or "time of use" electricity delivery rates, such as rate A-LM or A-TOU.

Getting started with ETS heat

Here are a few steps to help you get started with ETS heat:

  • Learn more to see if ETS is right for you. Spend a few minutes on this site to read about the different options and requirements. Check out our Estimated Savings tool to see how much you could save.
  • Talk with a qualified ETS provider about the different options, and to find the ETS heating option that fits your specific needs
  • Apply for our ETS heat rebate program. You can apply online, or download a copy.
  • Work with the ETS provider you've selected to complete your installation. You will receive the rebate amount off the initial price.

Choose the meter option that works best for you

ETS heat offers more benefits than just cost savings. It's a safe, low-maintenance, and easy to use heat source. So, we're offering two ways for you to participate - just choose the option that works best for you!

Maximize your savings with the Separately Metered Option

We offer an electricity delivery rate specifically designed for ETS heaters. In order to use the rate, the heater needs to be connected to a separate meter from the rest of the electricity used at your home or business.

Keep one CMP account with the Combined Use Meter Option

With this option, your ETS heater will be connected to the existing CMP meter at your location. If you don't already have a "time-of-use" electricity delivery rate on your current CMP account, you'll need to switch to that option. The electricity used by your ETS heater will be measured and billed from a single meter and at the same rate as the rest of the electricity you use.

Save even more by weatherizing

The size of the ETS unit you'll need depends on several factors, such as the size and layout of the area being heated, and the level of insulation in your home or business.

If your home or business is not properly insulated, you may want to consider insulating and weatherizing your house before purchasing an ETS unit. Efficiency Maine offers information and resources related to insullation and weatherization projects.
