Central Maine Power, Environmental Groups to Celebrate PEV Grant Awards

CMP and Maine’s leading environmental organizations work together to put new electric vehicles on the road

Who and what:
Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, and representatives from Environment Northeast (ENE), the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM), the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) will celebrate the awards of the first grants in the utility’s Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PV) Grant Program.
Also on hand will be representatives from the program’s first grant recipient, the Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG). Through its Maine Clean Communities program, GPCOG has been offering use of its all-electric Nissan Leaf to member organizations. On Wednesday, GPCOG representatives will hand over the keys to Portland Mayor Michael Brennan.

About CMP’s PEV Grant Program:
CMP’s PEV Grant Program is designed to encourage the use of plug-in hybrid and electric cars in Maine, while gathering data about their use. It is being run in collaboration with several organizations, including Environment Northeast (ENE), the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM), the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF).

CMP and its program partners are working on a second program to create public-private partnerships to get more PEVs on the road and to promote the installation of charging stations in Greater Portland.
