Repair of Damage from Severe Thunderstorms in Final Stages

AUGUSTA, Maine, June 3, 2013 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, will have crews working through the night to restore power to the last of the customers who lost service following severe thunderstorms that hit Maine on Sunday. At 9 p.m., fewer than 600 customers remained without service, most in Oxford County.

CMP estimates that 35,000 customers lost power at some point during the storm. Crews replaced 29 poles that were broken when high winds toppled trees and blew limbs into power lines. Restoration has been particularly challenging in areas where storm debris closed roads and blocked access to some of the most remote parts of CMP’s service area.

An estimated 300 people, including lineworkers, pole-setting crews, tree crews, assessors, safety specialists, supervisors, and others, have been working in the field and in CMP offices on service restoration.

Here is a list of remaining outages by county:

Oxford: 425
Piscataquis: 86
Franklin: 44
Somerset: 10
Penobscot: 4
CMP Total: 569

Customers on the roads in the towns listed below may remain without service after midnight. Crews will continue to work through the night until restoration is complete.
