VIDEO: Crews Arrive Ahead of Hurricane Lee

Roughly 500 line crews and 300 vegetation management crews will be pre-staged at locations across CMP’s service area

AUGUSTA, ME — September 15, 2023 — With impacts from Hurricane Lee expected to begin overnight, Central Maine Power stands prepared to respond to outages cause by high winds, coastal flooding, and associated tree damage.

One of the final steps of storm preparation is the arrival of additional crews to support needed restoration efforts. Today, roughly 500 such crews began arriving in Maine, with some gathering at the Maine Visitor Information Center in Kittery for an initial briefing prior to assignment to various locations across CMP’s service area.

“Over the course of the evening, power restoration crews will be dispatched to locations across our service area,” said Jon Breed, spokesperson for Central Maine Power. “On the eve of this storm’s arrival, one of our concerns continues to be tree stress and soil saturation from heavy rains this past summer. These conditions, when combined with strong winds and full foliage, can make it easy for trees to fall.”

Below are b/roll clips of the arrival of power restoration crews to Kittery on Friday afternoon.
