Augusta, ME, January 11, 2016 Central Maine Power, a subsidiary of AVANGRID, has restored power to more than 90 percent of the customers who lost service during Sunday's storm. At 5:30 p.m. Monday, fewer than 2,200 customers remained without service, down from a peak of nearly 32,000 Sunday evening. Hardest hit have been communities in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, Waldo and northeastern Cumberland Counties.

Our crews have made good progress today to repair damage from strong winds that blew trees and limbs onto power lines, said CMP Spokesperson Gail Rice. We have had crews working since mid-afternoon Sunday, and they will keep at it until service is back for everyone.

CMP expects service to be restored to the vast majority of customers by late Monday evening. However, some small groups of customers and single customers, mainly in remote areas such as camp lines and near the ends of circuits, could be without service a second night.

The company urges customers to use caution if they see downed lines.

Everyone should stay clear of any downed power lines or fallen trees and limbs that may be tangled in the lines, "said Rice. All downed lines should be considered live and dangerous. Customers should leave the clean-up to our crews, who are trained and equipped to handle these situations safely.

CMP also reminds drivers to use caution when approaching utility crews. The working conditions are difficult, and the workers appreciate everyone's consideration for their safety.
