Training alongside CMP lineworkers is next step as class of 10

works toward earning a 1st Class Lineworker role

Augusta, ME – September 26, 2025 – Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc., is proud to announce that its current apprentice training class has entered the next phase of their skills  development.

The 10 members of this year’s class have now begun working in service centers across Maine alongside experienced CMP crews. The 2025 class began their journey in June at CMP’s Farmingdale training facility, where they received hands-on instruction in climbing utility poles, operating bucket trucks, and safely working with electric grid systems.

CMP’s apprenticeship program combines classroom education with on-the-job training under the guidance of veteran lineworkers and trainers. Over the next year, apprentices will continue learning in the field, gaining the skills and experience needed to become 1st Class Lineworkers - a role essential to building and maintaining Maine’s energy grid and restoring power during outages.

“As these apprentices transition from our training yard to working alongside veteran lineworkers in service centers across the state, they are gaining hands-on experience and building the skills needed for a lifelong career in a vital trade,” said Eric Sutton, Vice President of Electric Operations at CMP. “These Maine-based jobs offer competitive wages, stability, and real opportunities for growth. By investing in these workers, we’re strengthening our electric grid to be more resilient and ready for the future. We’re proud to help shape the next generation of lineworkers who will keep Maine powered and growing.”

CMP partners with local institutions and unions to support lineworker apprenticeship and training programs that prepare individuals for careers in the energy utility industry. One of the key training hubs is the Electrical Lineworker Technology Program at Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) in Fairfield. 2025 marks the seventh year of CMP’s partnership with KVCC, and the majority of this year’s apprentice class are proud graduates of the program.
