Maine Students Discover Career Pathways at CMP’s First Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day
30 middle school students spent the day at CMP learning about career opportunities, experiencing active demonstrations, and getting an up‑close look at utility work
AUGUSTA, ME – May 7, 2026 – Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc., partnered with Junior Achievement of Maine to host a new Job Shadow Day at CMP’s Portland Service Center for 8th grade students from the Scarborough Public School District.
“Job Shadows are one of the most powerful ways we bring learning to life for students,” said Michelle Anderson, President & CEO of Junior Achievement of Maine. “Job Shadow Days give young people the chance to step into a workplace, ask questions, and truly see themselves in a future career. We’re incredibly grateful to our partners who make this possible, especially Central Maine Power, whose job opportunities represent a range of career pathways available to students and inspire them to build a life in Maine.”
The hands‑on experiences included:
- Opportunities about the types of careers CMP offers across Maine,
- A bucket truck demonstration.
- A chance to view CMP’s interactive Live Line display.
- Activities designed to expand students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Students also were able to try on CMP field safety gear to better understand the perspective of the company’s lineworkers.
“Strong partnerships are essential to preparing Maine students for the future, and our collaboration with Junior Achievement of Maine is a powerful example of what’s possible when local educators and Maine businesses like ours come together,” said Linda Ball, President and CEO of Central Maine Power. “With a team of nearly 1,000 employees working across our state, everyone at CMP is invested in the communities we serve and in helping students see the wide range of career opportunities available to them right here at home. By opening our doors and sharing real‑world experiences, we hope to spark students’ creativity, build their confidence, and inspire their aspirations as they begin to imagine their own futures in Maine’s workforce.”
Students also learned more about apprenticeship and internship opportunities at CMP along with a question-and-answer session with the CMP team.
