CMP Restores 98% of Customers After Historic Storm

New milestone reached Friday as unprecedented restoration effort moves forward

AUGUSTA, ME — December 22, 2023 — 98% of Central Maine Power (CMP) customers impacted by Monday’s storm have had their power restored. CMP expects to restore power to the vast majority of remaining customers by Saturday night. 1,500 line and tree crews have been rebuilding CMP’s system after historic levels of damage for multiple days, and will continue until every customer is restored.

“When you are speaking in terms of individual communities building back, not just from historic flooding, but from thousands of fallen trees, you begin to grasp the magnitude of what Mainers experienced this week,” said Jon Breed, spokesperson for Central Maine Power. “We moved beyond simple repairs days ago. Our efforts in these hardest hit communities can only be described as rebuilding.”

CMP continues to thank our customers, communities, businesses, and other organizations who have shown so much kindness and generosity to our crews. A special thank you today goes to a wonderful group of fourth graders at Winslow Elementary School who hand-delivered Christmas cards to some of our restoration teams.

Safety continues to be a top priority for Avangrid and CMP leadership. There have already been instances of vehicle accidents involving our crews who are working roadside. The company cannot emphasize enough how important it is to slow down and to provide crews with plenty of room when motorists pass so no one is hurt or killed.
