CMP Restores 80% of Customers Impacted by Winter Storm

Heavy wet snow has damaged electrical infrastructure with hardest hit areas in Central and Western Maine.

AUGUSTA, ME — December 4, 2023 — Central Maine Power (CMP) is making significant progress restoring customers impacted by the winter storm moving through Maine.

So far, approximately 80% of more than 50,000 customers impacted by this weather event have had their power restored.

CMP has both internal and pre-staged external repair crews working together 24/7 to make these repairs as safely and efficiently as possible. Throughout the day, CMP crews responded to snow clinging to tree limbs that bent branches onto lines causing damage to our electrical infrastructure as well as motor vehicle accidents that resulted in several broken utility poles.

“As the snow and restoration continue, we are urging Maine drivers to observe all laws and best practices that promote safe operation of motor vehicles for the safety of all those using the roads as well as our crews responding to this storm,” said Dustin Wlodkowski, spokesperson for Central Maine Power.

As weather and road conditions improve, our remaining customers without power can expect to see successive rounds of damage assessment teams, vegetation teams and line repair teams.

Because of the extent of damage in some of the areas hardest hit, there will be some customers whose power will be restored after repairs are made on Tuesday.
