CMP Prepared for Severe Thunderstorms
Extra crews positioned across CMP service area as forecasts indicate wind gusts could reach 70 mph in some areas
AUGUSTA, ME – July 14, 2026
Our teams began tracking the potential for severe weather several days ago and extra crews are being staffed across CMP’s service area to respond to any outages that may occur as quickly and safely as possible.
"With a number of the communities we serve forecasted to potentially see severe weather, including 70 mile per hour winds, we are making sure our teams are ready to restore service to our customers, " said Linda Ball, President and CEO of Central Maine Power. "We are also encouraging our customers to use the time before these storms arrive to review tips that can help them stay safe and prepare.”
With full leaves on trees and potential high winds, outages related to tree damage are a concern. Falling trees and limbs can break or damage wire and utility poles. They are the leading cause of outages at CMP.
For any customers looking for additional information on how to prepare for a possible power outage, CMP’s Storm Safety Checklist can be a helpful resource.
