CMP: June Is a Good Time to Look Back at Energy Use, Check Out Free Tools

The halfway point in the year can bring lower cost months for Maine energy consumers, allowing them to look back at recent winter use and plan ahead.

Augusta, ME – June 19, 2026 – Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc., is reminding customers of available ways to take control of how much energy they use, keep track of their usage and see how their usage can affect their electric bills month-to-month.

June can be an ideal time for customers to look back at their prior six to twelve months of usage to see what their recent energy use has been in detail, down to an hour-by-hour snapshot. They can get a sense of when their energy use is higher or lower throughout the year, typically rising in winter with heating and again in summer with air conditioning. June sits between these two periods.

CMP offers customers a number of free ways to learn about their usage, take control and lower their energy costs:

  • Sign Up for Usage Alerts – Through your online account, you can sign up for alerts via text, phone or email. These can update you with your weekly usage and its estimated cost. You can also set a usage or target for yourself and receive an alert if you exceed your target.
  • Energy Manager – Can show you your daily energy usage online and can give you a breakdown of your usage by category, like heating, lighting, and cooking, and compare your household’s use to households like yours so you can understand how you’re using energy and make informed energy decisions. Energy Manager can break down usage by month, day and hour of the day.
  • Attend a Community Connection Event – CMP hosts in-person events with its Customer Service team year-round in the communities it serves. These events are an opportunity for customers to connect one-on-one with representatives about their unique questions, concerns or feedback. A list of upcoming events is included further below.
  • Learn About Residential Delivery Rates – CMP charges represent approximately half of current electric bills. The other half of costs are non-CMP supply and public policy charges. For the CMP delivery portion of the bill, the company has several rates that customers can learn more about to potentially save on costs.

“Thinking about when and how you use energy can create opportunities to save on electric bills,” said CMP Spokesperson, Dustin Wlodkowski. “We’re here to help customers learn about those opportunities and make informed choices that help them plan for the months ahead and save.”
