CMP Increases Power Reliability in Turner and Livermore
AUGUSTA, ME – September 12, 2022 – Central Maine Power (CMP) has enhanced power reliability for customers in Turner and Livermore through upgrades to the local distribution system. CMP increased voltage levels to accommodate higher demand on the local electric grid, ultimately making it more resilient and minimizing the frequency of outages for customers in the area. Approximately 2,263 customers will benefit from these enhancements.
“As climate change continues to test our electric grid, we must adapt and enhance its resiliency,” said CMP President and CEO Joe Purington. “Here in Maine, we’re experiencing more frequent and intense storms, warmer temperatures, and seeing more folks rely on electricity for their everyday needs than ever before. We’re working diligently to ensure the grid is able to meet the needs of the future and is prepared to take on more clean, renewable energy that Mainers can depend on for years to come.”
This project includes a number of enhancements that will increase both the reliability of power in the area and the resiliency of the grid. Included in those upgrades are:
- Enhanced “switching” capabilities to allow CMP to draw power from nearby circuits to avoid service interruptions for customers.
- Installation of stronger, taller poles that enable greater clearance for vehicle traffic
- Coated tree wire that is better able to withstand tree/limb contact from outside the company’s approved trimming zone.
- And improved communications systems tied to CMP’s Energy Control Center, ultimately increasing response times to outages.
