CMP Hosts Community Leaders at Third Annual Municipal Day (with B/Roll and interview)
CMP hosted Maine municipalities to continue collaboration with discussions at its Augusta Headquarters and hands-on tours
Augusta, ME — May 16, 2025 – Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc., hosted its third annual Municipal Day at its Augusta Headquarters with nearly a dozen Maine community leaders. The annual event with Maine municipalities continues partnerships with communities where our customers live.
The day-long event included discussions with CMP CEO Joe Purington and conversations on topics that impact municipalities like pole replacement procedures, local tree and vegetation work and reliability. Community leaders toured the Augusta Service Building to get an up-close look at CMP line operations, check out infrastructure inventory and experience the intense safety precautions crews apply at CMP’s lineworker glove testing facility.
“CMP’s Municipal Day continues each year because of the positive feedback we receive from our community partners. An open dialogue is key to knowing what our Maine communities need and what we can do to support them,” said Joe Purington, CEO of Central Maine Power. “Strong communication helps us beǪer understand how we can serve our municipalities and our customers living in each part of our service area. It’s also a great opportunity to share what we do with community partners.”
“Public safety is really the first part of the focus in developing our relationship with the utility and making sure we have a good ability to talk to them and coordinate operations with them when we need to. CMP is really a handin-hand partner for the town of Rumford in how we operate on a daily basis and provide for our community,” George O’Keefe, Rumford Town Manager and Economic Development Director, said. “We always appreciate the opportunity to understand CMP’s operations and how they are managed in Rumford. We always appreciate the opportunity to understand CMP’s continued programs on vegetation management, how they are handling tree cuǪing and how they are continuing to maintain their right of way in a manner that is not only compatible with community values and the things that we need, but also, continue to support recreation as well.”
Municipalities that aǪended the event include Portland, Newcastle, Wiscasset, Bristol, Topsham, Rumford and Poland.
