public elementary schools and libraries across its service territory
Augusta, ME – June 2, 2026 – Central Maine Power (CMP), a subsidiary of Avangrid Inc., is donating hundreds of copies of Good Morning, Maine! by Maine-based author Sara Frautten to more than 500 public elementary schools and municipal libraries across its service territory through its annual President’s Pick Book Donation Program.
“For my first pick as CMP President and CEO, I wanted to choose a book that celebrates the landscapes and wildlife that mean so much to Mainers and to me personally,” said Linda Ball, President and CEO of Central Maine Power. “Good Morning Maine, by a Maine author and longtime educator Sara Frautten is a charming story that captures the beauty and rhythm of life across our state. I hope this book brings joy to readers and inspires a deeper appreciation for Maine’s incredible natural surroundings. We’re proud to continue this program, helping build strong readers and support a love of reading in communities across Maine.”
Illustrated by Mary M. Preble, Good Morning, Maine! celebrates the wildlife and natural beauty found across the state. The illustrations showcase artwork created from hand-painted papers and incorporate textures from recycled materials, adding a unique and creative dimension to the story. Good Morning, Maine! is a collaboration between Frautten and her granddaughters, Adalynn and Lillian.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Central Maine Power for this thoughtful book donation to our school library,” said Mary Thompson, C.K. Burns School Librarian with the Saco Public School District. “Our special Maine collection helps students connect more deeply with their state, and this title is a perfect addition to that effort. It will be a meaningful resource for our students as they learn about Maine’s people, places, and stories. We truly appreciate CMP’s commitment to supporting education and literacy in our community.”
“I am beyond thrilled and honored for Good Morning, Maine! to be chosen as CMP President’s Pick book for 2026,” said Sara Frautten, author of Good Morning, Maine. “What started as a literacy activity with my granddaughters during the pandemic in 2020 has turned into a beautiful book illustrated by Mary Preble with art made from recycled items and hand-painted papers showcasing Maine animals and how they greet the day. I hope this book inspires children to get outside, take a walk, look for prints and learn more about the animals in our great state of Maine.”
Published by independent Maine publisher McSea Books, Good Morning, Maine! is part of CMP’s long-standing commitment to literacy. For more than 20 years, the President’s Pick Book Donation Program has delivered tens of thousands of books to schools and libraries across Maine.
