Central Maine Power makes Maine Maritime Museum Expansion Possible

A Donation from CMP will provide energy efficient lighting for the new project.

BATH, MAINE — September 24, 2019 — Maine Maritime Museum’s First Impressions project will be seen in an entirely new light, thanks in part to a generous donation from Central Maine Power Co. (CMP), a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR).

“CMP’s donation will provide energy efficient parking lot lights and landscape lighting that will create a seamless entryway into the museum,” said Harley Bartles, Maine Maritime Museum’s Manager of Corporate Relations and Sponsorship.

First Impressions is a complete redesign of the museum’s five-acre front campus. The project will include a new parking area and green space where many native trees used in Maine’s rich shipbuilding tradition will be planted.

“I attended Maine Maritime Academy but had yet to visit the Maine Maritime Museum.  Before CMP decided to sponsor this project, my wife and I toured it this summer and we were both impressed by how well the museum educates visitors about the importance of the culture and history the maritime and ship-building industry has here in Maine,” said Doug Herling, CMP President and CEO. The Maine Maritime Museum sits on the grounds of the only remaining and fully intact wooden-hulled, century-old shipyard. The First Impressions Project will be completed next year in time to celebrate Maine’s Bicentennial.

Central Maine Power is proud to support this project and many others around Maine through its charitable giving program.
