Central Maine Power Completes Milestone on Lewiston Loop Project
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUSTA, MAINE June 25, 2018 Two projects to enhance electric service to parts of Androscoggin and Oxford Counties have reached milestones. Central Maine Power, a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), has energized a new section of 34.5-kilovolt transmission line in Lewiston and has completed upgrades to its Norway Substation. Both projects are part of the larger Lewiston Loop upgrade -- an $82.4 improvement designed to strengthen and add flexibility to the electric delivery system serving the area.
The section of transmission line put into service in Lewiston this spring runs from CMP's new Middle Street Substation to the Monty Hydro station on the Androscoggin River.
Work continues on upgrades to the existing Lewiston Lower Substation on Lisbon Street, a new one-mile 115-kilovolt underground transmission line, and other improvements designed to enhance reliability in the Lewiston-Auburn area. The remaining Lewiston Loop upgrades are due for completion by the end of 2018.
"These upgrades will help to improve reliability and expand electrical capacity in the Lewiston-Auburn area, said Ellen Miller, vice president, Projects, for Avangrid Networks. The cities of Lewiston and Auburn have been active partners in the development and approval of this project, and Central Maine Power and AVANGRID thank both communities for their support while we work to enhance reliability into the future."
CMP has also completed construction and energized new equipment at the Norway Substation, a facility that serves as a key hub feeding electricity to the Oxford Hills area. New circuit breakers, switches, and other updated equipment are now providing CMP with greater flexibility for operating the energy grid, resulting in better service for Oxford Hills homes and businesses.
