Arrearage Management Program (AMP)

Helping you catch up on your electricity bill

If you're behind on your payments, the AMP can help you reduce your past due balance and get back on track.

To be eligible for the AMP, you must:

  1. Be a residential customer of CMP (or have applied to become one).
  2. Be enrolled in either the:
    • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), or
    • Electricity Lifeline Program (ELP)
  3. Have a past due balance of $500 or more, with part of it being at least 90 days overdue.
  4. Not have participated in the AMP in the last six years

How to apply

If you meet the above requirements, apply at cmpco.com/AMPapply. We’ll review your application and confirm your eligibility.

How the AMP works

Once you're enrolled, here's what to expect:

  1. 12-month enrollment period
    • Your past due balance at the time of enrollment will not require payment while on the AMP.
    • You’ll be billed for your current charges each month.
    • Each month that your current charges are paid, we’ll apply a credit to your past due balance.
    • Up to $6,000 can be credited in the 12 months, if payments are made every month.
    • Customers who had a past due balance of more than $6,000 at enrollment and successfully complete the AMP can reapply the next year.
  2. Missed payments
    • If you miss a payment you can make it up. Once the missed payment is made, the monthly credit will be applied.
    • To get back on track: both the missed amount and the current bill need to be paid.
    • Customers can make up two payments, if a third payment is missed it will result in termination from the AMP.
    • If terminated from the program, the remaining past due that did not require payment, will become due again.
