Heavy, Wet Snow Keeps CMP Crews Busy

AUGUSTA, Maine, November 23, 2011 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) crews are busy today restoring power to customers who have lost service when a storm dumped heavy, wet snow over parts of Maine. At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, an estimated N,NNN customer accounts were without service, mostly in Cumberland, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and York Counties. That number is down from a momentary peak of nearly 14,200 customer accounts just after 9:30 a.m. today.

“Crews have been making good progress, and we hope to have service restored to everyone by this evening,” says CMP spokesperson Gail Rice. “Many of today’s outages were caused by motor vehicle accidents. With so many people traveling today for the Thanksgiving holiday, we urge everyone to use extreme caution on the roads.”

Here is a list of outages by county as of 11:30 a.m.:

Cumberland: 4,272
Lincoln: 2,704
Sagadahoc: 1,389
York :857
Knox: 432
Waldo: 179
Kennebec: 21

CMP Total: 9,854

CMP urges customers to report outages to the toll-free outage hotline: 1-800-696-1000.

The company urges customers to stay clear of any downed lines and debris.

CMP also reminds drivers to use caution when approaching utility crews on slippery roads. The working conditions are difficult, and the workers appreciate everyone’s consideration for their safety.
