Central Maine Power Reports 12,000 Outages Remaining 

AUGUSTA, Maine, September 1, 2011, noon — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) reports 12,000 customers without power as of noon. Outages from Tropical Storm Irene peaked at nearly 187,000 customer accounts around 9 o’clock Sunday night, and the company estimates that nearly 280,000 customers lost service at some point during the storm. The storm caused outages in 336 towns across all 14 counties served by the utility. Presently, there are customers without power in 58 towns.

 

The company will continue to move crews into the hardest hit communities during the day as the restoration wraps up in other areas. CMP reminds customers to use caution when approaching utility crews in the roadway, and urges customers to contact the company’s call center for information about repairs in their area. The working conditions are difficult, and it is important for crews to work safely without distraction or delay.
