Central Maine Power Noon Update - 40,000 Outages as Storm Recovery Continues


AUGUSTA, Maine, August 31, 2011, noon — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) reports 40,000 customers without power as of noon. Outages from Tropical Storm Irene peaked at nearly 187,000 customer accounts around 9 o’clock Sunday night, and the company estimates that nearly 280,000 customers lost service at some point during the storm. The storm caused outages in all 14 counties served by the utility. Presently, there are customers without power in155 towns in 12 counties.


With the arrival additional crews from northern Maine, New Hampshire, and New Brunswick, the company has nearly 160 tree crews and 285 repair crews clearing trees and repairing lines in every community still affected by the storm.
