Central Maine Power set to wrap up storm repairs today

AUGUSTA, Maine, November 1, 2011, 9:30 a.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) reports 300 customers remain without power in several York County communities as the company works toward completing the restoration of service following the week end snowstorm. Crews are at work on each of the remaining outages, and CMP expects to restore service to the last of those affected by the storm by noon today.

Storm Summary: CMP began receiving the first reports of outages around 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 29. As the storm intensified in southern Maine, the number of outages increased, reaching a peak of 143,000 at 10:30 Sunday morning. The snow diminished and winds eased south to north, and the storm cleared the northern portions of the company’s service area by mid-afternoon Sunday, by which time more than 207,000 customer accounts had lost power at some point. By Monday morning, the outage count had dropped to fewer than 20,000 accounts without power, and by 3:00 p.m. Monday—24 hours after the storm passed out of the service area—CMP crews had restored service to 199,000 customers or more than 95 percent of those affected by the storm. The remaining 8,000 outages had been reduced to fewer than 400 by Tuesday morning. The CMP restoration team included more than 200 hundred two-person line repair crews and 110 tree crews, backed up by hundreds of support personnel in the field and company offices.
