Power restoration nearly complete
AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 9, 2010 — Crews working for Central Maine Power Company (CMP) have restored power to nearly all of those who lost service during the rain and wind storm that hit Maine Sunday and Monday. By 9:30 Tuesday evening, fewer than 1,500 customer accounts remained without service. At the storm’s peak Monday morning, an estimated 61,445 homes and businesses were without power.
Hundreds of line and tree workers, plus additional support personnel in the field and in CMP offices, have been working throughout southern and coastal areas in an effort to finish storm repairs today.
“The work at the stage is very labor-intensive, as each repair brings back only a small number of customers,” says CMP spokesperson Gail Rice. “Those who don’t have their power restored this evening should have it back on Wednesday.”
A list of towns and roads where power will be out another night was released Tuesday evening.
Here are the outages by county as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
CMP Total 1,407
Crews have found 120 broken utility poles.
CMP continues to urge customers to use caution if they see downed lines, and reminds drivers to use caution when approaching utility crews in the roadway.
Additional information on storm safety and restoration, including a town-by-town listing of outages in the CMP service area with an area map, can be found on CMP’s web site at www.cmpco.com.
