Storm repair nears final stages

AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 9, 2010 — Crews from Central Maine Power Company (CMP), its affiliates, and contractors continue the painstaking process of clean-up from the rain and wind storm that hit Maine late Sunday night and continued into Monday. Nearly 500 line and tree workers, plus hundreds of additional support personnel in the field and in CMP offices, continued working on power restoration Tuesday.

“We have crews on every circuit where there are outages reported, and they’re working their way out to the very end of each circuit,” says CMP spokesperson Gail Rice. “The work has become very labor-intensive because each repair brings back only a small number of customers. But we’re determined to keep going until the job is done.”

While CMP has been striving toward a goal to complete restoration to all customers by late Tuesday evening, there may be small pockets of customers in the most isolated areas that could be without service into Wednesday. If needed, a list of affected towns and roads will be released later today.

Here are the outages by county as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday:

Cumberland: 4,309
Lincoln: 1,935
Sagadahoc: 1,325
Androscoggin: 1,091
Oxford: 435
Kennebec: 258
York: 85
CMP Total: 9,438

Crews have found more than 105 broken utility poles.

CMP continues to urge customers to use caution if they see downed lines, and reminds drivers to use caution when approaching utility crews in the roadway.

Additional information on storm safety and restoration, including a town-by-town listing of outages in the CMP service area with an area map, can be found on CMP’s web site at
