As Earth Day approaches, CMP offers paperless ‘eBill’ option
AUGUSTA, Maine, April 15, 2009 —Central Maine Power Company (CMP) is encouraging customers to observe Earth Day, April 22, by signing up for the utility’s paperless eBill payment option.
“We hope eBill’s earth-friendly benefits of reduced paper production and disposal are enough to convince customers to enroll,” says CMP spokesperson Gail Rice. “For those needing more incentive, eBill is completely secure and allows customers an easy way to view and pay their bill. There’s really no downside to it.”
Customers who enroll in eBill receive e-mail reminders to let them know when their payment is due. They can log in and make a payment at their convenience, or they can sign up for automatic monthly payments that deduct the amount due from the account of their choice. The system stores 12 months of bills and usage data, and offers customers the option to print a paper copy for their records.
“Thousands of customers are already enrolled in eBill, and they tell us they really like the convenience, cost savings, and the environmental benefits,” says Rice.
CMP’s eBill is one of a broad range of earth-friendly initiatives under way at the utility. The company has a long history of recycling everything from paper waste, office supplies, and computers to the oil used in reclosers and transformers. It has incorporated scores of fuel-efficient vehicles, including many hybrids, into its fleet. Last year, the utility offered compact fluorescent light bulbs to customers who contributed to Maine’s Renewable Resource Fund. And the company works to protect wildlife by relocating osprey nests from its utility poles to more suitable nesting platforms nearby.
Customers who would like to enroll can visit cmpco.com and click on the eBill button on the home page.
