CMP to wrap up power restoration in dozens of Maine towns by Sunday evening

 

AUGUSTA, Maine, Dec. 14, 2008 2:30 p.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) says it expects to complete power restoration by late Sunday evening to more than 20 towns affected by last week’s ice storm.


     “Our crews are making good progress today, so we expect to complete repairs in many towns in northern and inland areas by tonight,” said CMP spokesman John Carroll. “However, many people in coastal towns west of Damariscotta and down through York and Cumberland counties will be out for at least one more night.”


     Following is an alphabetical list of towns where service is expected to be restored by midnight tonight:

Appleton, Belmont, Brooks, Brownfield, China, Cumberland, Fryeburg, Harrison, Jackson, Liberty, Lincolnville, Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, Monroe, Naples, Northport, Otisfield, Oxford, Palermo, Raymond, Rockport, Sebago, Vassalboro, Waterford, and Windsor.

     Most cities and towns served out of CMP’s Portland office are expected to have power back by late Monday. That includes all or parts of Buxton, Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Gorham, North Yarmouth, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Standish, Westbrook, and, Windham. While progress is reported in York County and the along the Midcoast, it may be later in the week before service is restored to all customers in those areas, which are served by CMP offices in Alfred and Brunswick.

    

CMP has more than 500 lineworkers, 13 pole-setting crews, and 159 tree crews in the field restoring power today. In addition, hundreds of people are engaged in support tasks including damage assessment, answering phones, moving equipment, and arranging meals and lodging.
