CMP offers compact fluorescent bulbs to customers supporting Maine’s Renewable Resource Fund

AUGUSTA, Maine, April 8, 2008 — Central Maine Power Co. is joining forces with Efficiency Maine to boost awareness and participation in Maine’s Renewable Resource Fund. The utility will offer a free energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb to 1,000 customers who contribute to the fund before June 1, 2008.

“CMP has been encouraging customers to use energy efficiently for years,” said CMP President Sara Burns. “We are delighted to give customers this opportunity to save money at home and support the development of renewable energy resources at the same time.”

The fund was established by the Maine Legislature in 2000, and is supported by private contributions, including donations from electric utility customers. Proceeds support universities and communities that research and develop new ways to produce electricity from renewable sources like wind, water, sun, wood, fuel cells, and geothermal sources. In 2007, the program funded 10 projects including grants for photovoltaic cells to power circulator pumps at the Norway Wastewater Department, a 50 kW windmill for the Town of Kittery, and funding for the Lincoln Middle School in Portland for photovoltaic equipment and a sustainable laboratory.

A brochure and contribution form will be included with the April bills for CMP customers. Contributions to Maine’s Renewable Resource Fund are completely voluntary and tax deductible. Customers can also make a donation on-line at the CMP website
