CMP Expects to Complete Outage Restoration by Monday Evening

AUGUSTA, Maine, June 3, 2013 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, reports that crews have restored power to nearly 80 percent of customers who lost service Sunday after a line of thunderstorms packing high winds, heavy rain, and hail came through Maine. At 8:30 a.m., an estimated 6,800 customers remained without service, most in the western mountains and foothills of the state. The utility estimates that 31,000 customers lost service at some point during the storm.

The utility expects to have service restored to virtually all customers by late this evening.

The damage was heaviest in parts of Oxford, Franklin, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties, where a combination of heavy rain and strong winds uprooted trees and brought them down onto power lines. CMP has moved crews from southern and coastal areas, where damage was minimal, to the hardest-hit areas to assist local crews with repairs.

Here is a list of remaining outages by county:

Oxford: 2,712
Somerset: 1,351
Penobscot: 1,165
Piscataquis: 684
Franklin: 555
Kennebec: 270
York: 43
Androscoggin: 20
Cumberland: 14
CMP Total 6,814
