CMP’s Sara Burns Named Maine Business Leader of the Year
AUGUSTA, Maine, March 19, 2013 — Maine’s largest business news journal has named Sara J. Burns, president and chief executive officer of Central Maine Power Company (CMP), as the 2013 Business Leader of the Year among Maine’s largest businesses. Central Maine Power is a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA.
In naming Ms. Burns as its choice for 2013, Mainebiz noted that CMP is a seven-time leader in customer satisfaction as ranked by J.D. Power & Associates, and a recipient of national recognition from the Edison Electric Institute for leadership in storm recovery. Highlights from her 15 years in leadership at the company include the company’s transition following state-mandated utility restructuring, as well as navigating two changes of corporate ownership, including the 2008 purchase by Iberdrola, one of the world’s leading energy services companies based in Spain.
More recently, CMP completed a $192 million Advanced Metering Infrastructure project installation, the largest single smart-grid installation project ever undertaken in the Iberdrola network, and the company finished its second year of construction on the $1.4 billion Maine Power Reliability Program, a five-year upgrade that is the largest construction project in Maine's history and the most extensive bulk power project ever in New England.
“This is a well-earned honor for Sara, and we are pleased to add our own congratulations to this recognition,” said Bob Kump, Iberdrola USA’s chief executive officer. “Sara is deeply respected for her leadership within our U.S. subsidiaries and throughout Iberdrola’s global operations.”
Mainebiz named three executives representing large businesses, small businesses, and non-profit organizations from more than 75 of the state's most exemplary leaders nominated for the award. Mainebiz is a multimedia company providing business news, information and analysis for Maine, and a subsidiary of New England Business Media. The magazine described the honorees as having “demonstrated tenacity, intelligence and an unwavering commitment to the people they serve.” The complete Mainebiz article can be viewed at Mainebiz.com.
