CMP Reports 11,000 customers without power as restoration continues


AUGUSTA, Maine, January 31, 2013, 9 p.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, reports 11,384 homes and businesses remain without power as of 9 p.m. The wind storm that swept through Maine on Thursday brought gusts over 60 miles per hour, knocking out power to more than 103,000 homes and businesses in CMP’s service area. The number of outages peaked at more than 44,000 at midday.


CMP has restored service to more than 90,000 customers so far today, and the company expects to make continued progress tonight. CMP expects to restore power to all customers in Cumberland and York counties by late tonight. Of the remaining outages, service to all customers in Androscoggin, Kennebec, Piscatquis, and Somerset counties will be restored by late morning on Friday, and all service in coastal Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and Waldo counties will be restored later in the day on Friday.
