Central Maine Power Crews Gain Ground in Storm Recovery

AUGUSTA, Maine, December 22, 2012, 10 a.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, reports 11,800 outages on Saturday morning after Friday’s windstorm knocked out power to more than 64,000 homes and businesses. CMP crews had restored service to 40,000 customers by late in the evening, and restoration work  continued overnight. The company expects to make good progress during the day with a goal of completing the restoration in most areas by late this evening.

“We have good conditions this morning and a full team of line crews, tree crews, and support personnel, so we expect to make good progress during the day,” said Tom DePeter, operations director for CMP. “We have a goal to complete the restoration in most towns by this evening or late tonight. We also discussed a special safety concern with our crews this morning, because we expect the roads will be busy with drivers who are hurried or distracted by holiday preparations. We hope people will remember to give our crews plenty of room as they work on the roadside, so we can all get home to our families safely.”
