Central Maine Power Hurricane Sandy Recovery Reaches 98 percent Complete
AUGUSTA, Maine, October 31, 2012, 5 p.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, reports the number of customers who lost power as a result of Hurricane Sandy has dropped to 3,500 as of 5 p.m.. The company expects to restore power to all customers by late tonight. Hurricane Sandy caused 165,000 outages as it passed through CMP’s service area on Monday and Tuesday. CMP’s crews have restored power to more than 160,000 accounts in the two days since the hurricane reached Maine.
“We have reached 98 percent completion in two days, including the period as the storm passed through our service area,” said John Carroll, spokesman for CMP. “The rate of restoration slows down at this stage, as each repair brings back fewer customers, but we also have our line crews working in progressively fewer and fewer towns. Our goal is to wrap up the recovery sometime late tonight.”
Outages by county as of 5 p.m.:
CMP Total: 3,531
Next update: 9 p.m.
