CMP Pledges to Plant Trees for Customers Who Enroll in Paperless Billing

Augusta, ME, April 6, 2012 — Central Maine Power Co. (CMP), a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, pledged to donate funds for a tree planting program in Maine for each new customer who signs up for the company’s paperless eBill payment option in April. The donations will be used to plant trees along local rivers and streams through a partnership with the Clear Water Carbon Fund.

With eBill service, customers can receive and pay their bill online and view up to 12 months of billing history on the company’s website. CMP’s eBill offers fast, flexible service, savings on postage, and less wasted paper.

"CMP is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices,” said Sara Burns, president of CMP.  “We’re always looking to reduce our environmental impact in everything we do – both in our offices and in the field. Offering customers an option that saves money and helps the environment is a great way to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day.”

John Gunn, senior program leader for the Clear Water Carbon Fund, pointed out that CMP’s eBill program provides the company and its customers with an easy, cost-effective way to help the environment.

“CMP’s commitment to planting trees is an example of how local businesses can make a positive impact on our environment," Gunn said. "The trees planted through CMP’s generosity will help clean the air and drinking water and restore wildlife habitat along Maine’s waterways."
