Power Line Construction Will Affect Traffic on Maine Turnpike
CMP Project Will Add Capacity, Reliability to Grid
AUGUSTA, Maine, March 5, 2012 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) reports that construction crews will be installing electrical conductors over the Maine Turnpike/ I-95 in Saco during the nighttime hours of March 6 through March 10. CMP has made arrangements with the Maine Turnpike Authority and the Maine State Police to allow for brief closures of the highway for 20-minute periods between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night.
The installation of the conductors will also require utility crews to work through the night near the company’s new substation on Industrial Park Road and in the transmission corridor near Jenkins Road in Saco.
“We have been asked by the Maine Turnpike Authority to install these conductors during the nighttime hours to minimize any traffic delays,” said John Carroll, CMP spokesman. “This is one of the last steps to complete this portion of our Saco Bay Transmission Reinforcement project, and it will allow us to energize the new substation on Industrial Park Road later this month.”
Central Maine Power Company began construction last fall on a $30 million investment to improve the capacity and reliability of the transmission system that serves Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, and Biddeford. The Saco Bay Transmission System Reinforcement Project includes the construction of new substations in Saco and Old Orchard Beach and improvements to the network of transmission lines throughout the region. CMP expects to complete the project in the fall 2012.
