Central Maine Power three years at No. 1 in customer satisfaction
J.D. Power and Associates annual residential customer satisfaction ranks CMP #1 in the east among large utilities
AUGUSTA, Maine, July 14, 2010 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) was ranked No. 1 in residential customer satisfaction among large electric utilities in the east for the third year in a row, according to an annual study by J.D. Power and Associates, a global marketing information services company. CMP was also ranked No. 1 in residential customer satisfaction in 2009 and 2008. In addition, the company received a No. 1 ranking in business customer satisfaction among electric utilities in the east in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study.
The J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM noted that efforts by utilities to assist customers with overdue balances and improve communications with customers during power interruptions contributed to higher levels of customer satisfaction. The 2010 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM is based on responses from more than 85,000 online interviews conducted from July 2009 through May 2010 among residential customers of the 121 largest electric utility brands across the United States, which collectively represent more than 93 million households. “We focus on providing great service and keeping our employees safe every day, so I’m grateful our customers appreciate the result,” said Sara Burns, CMP President and CEO. “We’re also investing $1.6 billion in smart grid technology and system upgrades to enhance reliability, service, and consumer features, because we want to keep improving the customer experience.”
Burns said that the company is engaged in several initiatives that promise continued, broad benefits for customers and the Maine economy:
• Work on a $1.4 billion modernization of the company’s electric grid is set to begin this summer.
• With the support of a $96 million federal grant, CMP is beginning the replacement of 620,000 meters with new smart grid technology.
• The company’s ownership by Iberdrola U.S.A. provides the expertise and resources of a leading global utility.
• A five-year agreement with regulators will provide stable rates and enhanced spending on reliability through 2013.
“This is an exciting time for our business and our employees,” said Burns. “I’m pleased that our customers continue to say we’re doing the right things.”
