CMP crews restore power to 50,000 following winter storm
AUGUSTA, Maine, Feb. 26, 2010, 9:30 p.m. — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) reports that line crews restored power to more than 50,000 customers as high winds ease. As of 10:00 p.m., the company reported that 80,000 homes and businesses remain without power, down from the peak of more than 133,000 at 10:00 a.m. Friday.
“We’ll have some crews on overnight, although most workers will rest after a long day,” said CMP spokesman John Carroll. “We expect to make good progress tomorrow, as more crews are headed for Maine from the Canadian Maritimes and beyond, however, this won’t be over for several more days.”
