J.D. Power survey ranks CMP #1 in business customer satisfaction


AUGUSTA, Maine, February 5, 2009 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) was ranked #1 in business customer satisfaction among electric utilities in the east, according to an annual study by J.D. Power and Associates, a global marketing information services company


The J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction StudySM noted that web-based services and awareness of corporate citizenship efforts correlate with higher levels of satisfaction for business customers. The 2009 study was based on responses from 15,434 online interviews among business customers of the 90 largest utility brands across the United Sates. CMP also received the #1 ranking from residential customers in the eastern region in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM.

CMP’s #1 ranking in the latest J.D. Power and Associates study comes at a time when the company has intensified its focus on providing outstanding customer service and value. Initiatives include:


• $160 million capital investments in 2008 to improve capacity and reliability across the CMP service area.
• Doubling annual spending for roadside tree trimming to enhance reliability.
• A new, five-year rate-cap plan to keep prices stable through 2013.
• Leadership in promoting power system investments to ensure reliability and support renewable energy development.
• Providing fast service restoration in response to storms and power outages.
• Redesigned web site with user-friendly tools for account management and on-line payments.

Burns said that CMP will continue to explore new technologies and other innovative ways to enhance customer service.
