CMP completes upgrades in Scarborough
New Mussey Road Substation supports business growth in area

AUGUSTA, Maine, May 14, 2008 — Central Maine Power Company’s new electrical substation on Mussey Road in Scarborough is now energized and set to begin serving retail and commercial customers in the area. Crews will complete the latest phase of the project this weekend, as they transfer high-voltage lines to new poles on Mussey Road and switch the local distribution lines onto the new substation.

“This area of Scarborough has been growing fast, and our system continues to grow right along with it,” says Joe Purington, CMP operations manager for the Portland area. “CMP is investing in projects like this to keep our system reliable and support economic development.”

The Mussey Road substation will provide power for the Gateway at Scarborough development, including the Cabela’s retail store that opens this week. It is also slated to serve planned retail, office, and restaurant customers coming to the area. The substation will also take part of the existing load from CMP’s Spring Street Substation in nearby Westbrook, will feed customers in the Gallery Boulevard, including Lowe’s and the new Wal-Mart, along with the U.S. Postal Service distribution center. In the future, customers along Payne Road and John Roberts Road will be switched to that circuit as well. The substation also has room for added capacity, should it be needed in the future.

“The Mussey Road Substation is part of an estimated $160 million our company is investing in our system this year,” says Purington. “We’re putting in state-of-the art systems and expanding our capacity to ensure the outstanding service and reliability our customers have come to expect.”

This weekend’s work will require an outage during the early morning hours this Sunday, May 18, beginning just after midnight and ending by 6 a.m. The outage will affect about 60 customers in the following areas. In case of inclement weather, the work will be done during the same early-morning hours on Sunday, June 1.

Scarborough: Spring Street, Mussey Road, Honan Road, Mussey Road, Piggery Line
South Portland: Postal Way, Broadway (at the Scarborough end)
