New CMP substation will support business growth in Scarborough
AUGUSTA, Maine, Dec. 21, 2007 — Central Maine Power Company has begun work on a new substation to support economic development in Scarborough. The facility on Mussey Road will serve new retail and commercial customers in the Gateway at Scarborough complex on the Haigis Parkway near Exit 42 of the Maine Turnpike.
“This area of Scarborough is set to grow, and our system is growing right along with it,” says CMP spokesman John Carroll. “CMP has a long tradition supporting economic development, and we remain committed to doing all we can to help bring new jobs to Maine.”
The substation on will include a control house, a large transformer that will feed two new distribution circuits, plus state-of-the-art communications equipment that is standard in today’s electric substations. The facility will be built to accommodate an additional circuit should future growth require it. Initially, one of the circuits from the Mussey Road substation will take some of the load off existing lines in the rapidly growing area.
“The Mussey Road Substation part of an estimated $130 million we have invested in our system this year,” says Carroll. “We’re putting in state-of-the art systems and expanding our capacity to ensure the outstanding service and reliability our customers have come to expect.”
Crews broke ground on the site in November. The substation is expected to be commissioned in April of 2008.
