Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

CMP expects to complete storm restoration by Sunday evening

AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 4, 2007 — Central Maine Power Company reports 1,895 customer outages as of midmorning Sunday. Saturday’s high winds and heavy rain caused limited damage to the company’s system. The outages reached a high of 5,172 at about 11:30 on Saturday evening. CMP expects to restore service to all customers by Sunday evening.

“The winds generally stayed at the low end of the forecast, and we’ve been doing a lot of extra tree trimming in coastal communities this fall,” said John Carroll, CMP spokesman. “We think that kept the damage down, and we had crews pre-positioned, so the outages never got too far ahead of us.”

All crews were asked to report in again on Sunday morning to complete the restoration. Some CMP crews will also be heading north to help Bangor Hydroelectric Company later this morning. Utilities in the Canadian Maritimes have also requested mutual aid. CMP crews may head for Nova Scotia on Monday.

Following is a breakdown of outages by Service Center. Each Service Center includes the city or town listed and about a dozen surrounding communities. A map showing the service areas is available on the company’s outage page on its website at www.cmpco.com.
