CMP postpones planned outage for Wiscasseet, Woolwich, and Westport
AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 2, 2007 — Forecasts for heavy rain and strong winds from Hurricane Noel have prompted Central Maine Power Company to postpone this Sunday’s maintenance outage that would have affected customers in Wiscasset, Woolwich, and Westport.
The outage, which would affect about 2,000 customer accounts in those three communities, has been rescheduled to Sunday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 6 a.m.
“We look forward to completing this project, which will add a new circuit and enhance service in the area,” said CMP spokesman John Carroll. “But with Hurricane Noel threatening the Maine coast, we had to shift gears for this weekend and prepare for possible storm damage.”
CMP officials are watching weather forecasts and putting extra crews on standby in anticipation of storm damage from strong wind and heavy rain. The utility offers storm safety tips for customers on its web site at http://www.cmpco.com/UsageAndSafety/electricalsafety/StormSafety/default.html.
