Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

Emergency public notice

AUGUSTA, Maine, October 2, 2007, 1 p.m. -- Central Maine Power Company is issuing an urgent notice to contractors, excavators, and anyone performing an excavation with mechanical equipment in any community served by Central Maine Power Company in the following counties: Franklin, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, or Waldo.

Any Dig Safe ticket requested between Sept. 21, 2007 and Oct. 1, 2007 should be considered null and void because of a possible error in the data files used by Dig Safe. Anyone holding a Dig Safe ticket that was requested between those dates should not proceed with any excavation on the assumption that the CMP markings are complete with regard to underground electrical facilities.

Anyone performing any excavation by mechanical means in the affected communities must request a new Dig Safe ticket before proceeding with any further excavation.

Persons holding a Dig Safe ticket issued within this period in these communities should contact Dig Safe at 1 (888) DIG SAFE or 1 (888) 344-7233.
