Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

Power restoration will linger until Friday for some Penobscot Bay communities

AUGUSTA, Maine, September 27, 2007, 4 p.m. -- CMP crews expect to restore most of the remaining outages from Wednesday evening’s lighting storms by later this afternoon or early evening in most communities. The intense storms that tracked across parts of Waldo, Knox and Hancock Counties caused severe damage. CMP crews from the surrounding areas have been working to restore power in those areas throughout the day and work will continue overnight. However, the company doesn’t expect to restore power completely in some sections of the towns of Castine, Liberty, Penobscot, and Searsmont until mid-day on Friday.

As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, CMP estimated 1,300 customer accounts were without service, mostly in the Alfred, Augusta, Brunswick, Lewiston, and Rockland service center areas. Each Service Center includes the city or town listed and about a dozen surrounding communities. A map showing the service areas is available on the company’s outage page on its website at www.cmpco.com.

Alfred    300

Lewiston    120

Augusta    70

Rockland    760

Brunswick    45

The company notes that the forecast for more storms later today could add to these totals.
