Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

Lower power-delivery prices for CMP customers take effect July 1

AUGUSTA, Maine, July 2, 2007 — Central Maine Power Co. customers will be paying a little less for electricity delivery this summer. The utility lowered its prices by approximately 1 percent effective July 1. For a typical residential customer who uses 550 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, the new price translates to a savings of about $4.50 per year.

“We’ve been working to keep our rates down for over seven years,” says Sara Burns, president of CMP. “This latest price cut is more good news for customers.”

Since 2000, the utility has been operating under an agreement with Maine’s utility regulators to keep delivery prices stable and meet customer service goals for quality. This is the final year of the rate agreement, and CMP recently filed a new plan that would keep rates stable and predictable through 2014. The company hopes the Maine Public Utilities Commission will agree to a new rate plan by early next year.
